LeBron James returning to Cleveland Cavaliers
Four years ago, the Chosen One LeBron James left Cleveland to take his talents to South Beach, a decision that altered the fate of two franchises. After moving to Miami, Lebron led the Heat to two NBA titles, and four finals appearances, but without the King the Cavaliers struggled mightily.
Now he is on the move again, only this time -- he is going back to Cleveland, after making the announcement on Sports Illustrated's website. This idea would have seemed unfathomable four years ago, after the venomous fallout that followed his decision to leave for Miami.
The move led to a backlash from Cleveland fans, who burned LBJ jerseys in anger. James was called disloyal, a narcissist, a coward, and a quitter - and that was all by Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert, who wrote an infamous letter blasting the four-time MVP for choosing Miami. But now the 29-year-old heads back to Cleveland, to see if he can finally deliver on his promise of winning a crown for the title-starved city. LBJ says a return to his home state of Ohio was always in his thoughts. And now coaches and fans around the league, are expressing their thoughts, on the two-time champion's latest decision.
"It appeared that he was seriously considering it for some days now. So, not so much of a surprise. He appears to be a smart young man, and has always thought of himself as more than just a basketball player so, from that standpoint, it looks like things are going to work out, and I'm happy for him and his family if that's what he truly wants," said New York Knicks coach Derek Fisher.
"I feel ecstatic, the King is coming home. This is the greatest moment in Cleveland sports history and there's a lot of things that are going to go down in this city that are going to be great and it starts with LeBron. Welcome home," said a Cavaliers fan.
"I feel that it sucks. Like I said, he had a big fan base over here, I feel like we supported him like if he was one of our own and now he decides he's just going to go back to Cleveland. It's kind of like a big middle finger to us," said a Miami Heat fan.
